The Comeback of Fatty Foods

The Comeback of Fatty Foods

The guidelines that were issued by the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, contains a large of changes that can exonerate fats all the more. The department of agriculture and the department of health and human services will jointly lay down the guidelines that can impact what the Americans will consume. The committee did not find any health benefits by limiting the fats in diet of a person. It stated that the total fats of the body should not be more than 20% - 35% of total calories. The committee also recommended that the level of saturated fats that includes consumption of foods like cheese, butter, whole milk and beef should consist of only 10% of total calories.

It has been found that the saturated fats help in driving away risks rather than the intake of total fats. Reduction in the saturated fats can lower your risks of heart disease if it is replaced with polyunsaturated fats that are found in vegetable oils like soybean and corns. Replacing saturated fats with carbohydrates does not contribute in reducing heart diseases. It was then concluded that monounsaturated fats that is found in olive and peanut oils are good and it makes your heart healthy. It was also concluded that cholesterol is not a nutrient. It was also suggested that the government agencies should not state any upper limit on consumption of fats. The overall effect of saturated fats should be kept neutral because of increase in both the bad as well as good cholesterol.
